Adigun Zeenat: A Young Survivor’s Fight Against FGM

At just 14 years old, Adigun Zeenat is a determined gender champion committed to eradicating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Zeenat’s journey began as a survivor of FGM, having undergone the painful procedure at the tender age of six. The traumatic experience left a lasting scar on her psyche, with the memories of her mutilation repeatedly haunting her. This pain and anguish are not something she wishes upon her future children or anyone else.

Motivated by her own suffering, Zeenat has taken up the mantle of an FGM champion, dedicated to spreading the message of total elimination of FGM. She is actively engaged in educating her peers, family members, and the broader community about the harmful and enduring effects of this practice. Despite her young age, Zeenat’s voice carries the weight of her personal story, making her advocacy profoundly impactful.

Her efforts are already making waves, as she courageously shares her story to raise awareness and inspire change. Zeenat’s dedication to this cause reflects a mature understanding of the importance of protecting future generations from the physical and emotional pain she endured. She embodies the power of youth activism, proving that age is no barrier to making a significant difference in the fight against FGM.

Through her ongoing efforts, Adigun Zeenat is not just a survivor; she is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in her community and beyond. Her work as an FGM champion exemplifies the critical role that personal experience and youth advocacy play in the broader movement to end FGM once and for all.
