What is YPAT?
The Young People’s Action Team (YPAT) is a vibrant group of young leaders committed to driving change in their communities. Through their work with UNICEF and partners, YPAT members advocate for youth-focused initiatives, lead community-based projects, and engage with key stakeholders to ensure the voices of Nigerian youth are heard—especially those who are marginalized or vulnerable.
YPATs play a crucial role in the UNICEF GenU 9JA Public-Private-Youth-Partnership (PPYP) platform, acting as an advisory team to ensure that youth voices are included in important decisions and policies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Aged 10-29 years
- Passionate about youth engagement, social change, and development
- Demonstrated experience in community leadership, volunteering, or activism
- Available for a one-year commitment
- Willing to participate in online and in-person volunteer activities
- Nigerian citizen and resident in the state you are applying for
- Access to a smartphone
- Leadership experience in an active youth-led organization or network addressing critical youth issues (education, employment, entrepreneurship, climate action, gender equality, etc.)
- Proficient in English (written and spoken)
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with a sense of inclusivity and respect
- Proven track record of advocacy or leadership in youth-focused initiatives (with at least two years of experience)
Roles and Responsibilities
YPAT members will:
- Advocate for youth in policy dialogues and events
- Lead and support community-based projects and initiatives
- Participate in capacity-building workshops and training programs
- Engage digitally to promote youth-focused initiatives
- Collaborate with youth organizations, government bodies, and private sector partners

Application Process

Provide your personal information, educational background, and experience, and answer the motivation questions: Why do you want to join YPAT? What specific changes do you want to see in Nigeria, and how do you think YPAT can contribute?
Step 2: Submit an optional 1-2 minute video explaining why you are passionate about youth empowerment and your vision for change.
Step 3: Provide two references from community leaders, youth organizations, or mentors who can vouch for your leadership and dedication.
