Job Summary
The Finance Officer/Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria. This includes financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to our mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management
- Oversee and manage the organization’s financial transactions and accounting processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with all financial regulations and policies.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop, monitor, and update annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
- Prepare financial forecasts and analyze financial data to support decision-making.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Present financial reports to the management team and board of trustees as required.
- Audit and Compliance
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for auditing and reporting purposes.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of transactions.
- Reconcile bank statements and maintain cash flow projections.
- Payroll Management
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and timely disbursement of salaries.
- Maintain payroll records and prepare payroll reports.
- Grant Management
- Monitor and report on the financial performance of grants and projects.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and prepare financial reports for funders.
- Financial Analysis
- Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to improve financial performance.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend financial strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting, preferably within the NGO sector.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations and tax laws. Experience with grant management and donor reporting is an advantage.
