Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria Commemorates 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, Calls for Collective Action Against Digital Violence
Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria joins the global community today to kick off the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign running from 25 November to 10 December. This year, we amplify a critical message: Digital abuse is real violence, and online spaces must become safe, empowering environments for women and girls.
In alignment with the theme promoted by UN Women—“Online spaces should empower, not endanger”—Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria will lead transformative conversations and activities that shine a spotlight on the growing threat of online harassment, cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, and technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
“From hateful comments to online stalking and image-based abuse, digital violence has become a silent but devastating weapon against women and girls,” said the Executive Director of Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria. “As we commemorate the 16 Days of Activism, we call on government, communities, tech platforms, and individuals to join hands in creating a safer internet for all.”
Throughout the 16-day campaign, TBI will roll out a series of targeted actions including:
-
Digital safety awareness and education for young people
-
Community sensitization campaigns on preventing online and offline GBV
-
Strengthening survivor-centered responses to digital abuse
-
Youth-driven advocacy to end harmful practices and promote gender equality
The organization encourages Nigerians to use their voices, platforms, and influence to stand against all forms of digital and physical violence. Ending GBV is not only a human rights imperative—it is vital for the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of women and girls across the country.
Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to building communities where women and girls can thrive—on the streets, in schools, in workplaces, and online.
