In commemoration of the International Day of Education 2025, with the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria (TBI) held an engaging debate competition at Bishop Philips Academy, Iwo Road, Ibadan, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
The event brought together talented students who passionately debated the topic: “Artificial Intelligence Can Effectively Replace Human Teachers in Education.” The competition was organized to foster critical thinking, public speaking skills, and awareness among young minds on the evolving role of technology in education.
The debate featured two teams—proposing and opposing the motion—who delivered compelling arguments backed by research and practical examples. After a rigorous session of exchanges, the opposing team emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional critical analysis and persuasive reasoning.
The event was well-attended by TBI staff, school management, and teachers, who commended the initiative for creating a platform to stimulate intellectual discourse and leadership development among students.
Speaking after the event, Dr. Dare Olagoke-Adaramoye, Executive Director of Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria, emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate the intersection of education and technology.
“We are thrilled to see such vibrant participation. This debate underscores the role education plays in preparing students for a future where AI and human agency must coexist harmoniously,” he said.
Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria extended its gratitude to the school management and staff for their cooperation in making the event a success.
This debate competition is part of TBI’s larger commitment to promoting quality education and empowering young Nigerians to become change-makers in their communities.
