In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria held an engaging and inspiring talk show competition for students of Ifelodun Community Grammar School (Muslim), located in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The event, which brought together students, educators, and stakeholders, provided a vibrant platform for young people to express their perspectives on gender equality, women’s rights, and the importance of empowering girls in society. Through thoughtful presentations and lively discussions, students demonstrated remarkable awareness and passion for building a more inclusive and equitable future.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the competition was the strong participation of both female and male students. While many girls confidently spoke about the challenges facing women and girls, several male participants also took the stage to advocate for gender equality, emphasizing the critical role boys and men play in promoting respect, fairness, and opportunities for women and girls.
Speaking at the event, representatives of Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria noted that engaging young people in conversations about gender equality is essential to shaping a society where everyone—regardless of gender—can thrive.
“The voices we heard today show that young people are not only aware of gender issues but are also ready to be champions of positive change in their communities,” – Mrs Yeunde Bamydele – TBI Programme Officer said.
The talk show competition formed part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to promote gender justice, youth empowerment, and social inclusion through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
TBI also expressed deep appreciation to the management and staff of Ifelodun Community Grammar School (Muslim) for their cooperation and commitment to fostering an environment where students can freely express ideas and develop leadership skills.
Special recognition was also given to the event’s donors and panelists, whose support and expertise contributed significantly to the success of the programme. The panelists commended the students for their confidence, clarity of thought, and commitment to advocating for the rights and dignity of women and girls.
As the global community continues to mark International Women’s Day, initiatives like this highlight the importance of nurturing young advocates who can help drive conversations around equality, justice, and empowerment at the grassroots level.
The event concluded with renewed calls for schools, communities, and organizations to continue investing in programs that empower young people—especially girls—to reach their full potential while encouraging boys to become allies in the pursuit of gender equality.
