On Thursday 20th April,2023, Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria with support from @unicef_nigeria held a 1-Day Policy Advocacy Dialogue with Government Officials, Academia, Parliamentarians and Service Providers on Tackling Challenges Faced by Girls in Relation To Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage, Gender Based Violence, Violence Against Women and Children and Other Harmful Practices in Ayete Community of Ibarapa North LGA Of Oyo State.
Participants at the Policy advocacy includes Ilero traditional Council and Custodians of Culture led by the King, Local Government Parliamentarians led by the Chairman, Religious Leaders and Local authorities and other decision-makers which includes law enforcement agents, Youth and Women leaders, Academia, Community based organizations etc.
We had fruitful deliberations with policy makers in the community.
The Asawo of Ayete and council made pronouncement against FGM, GBV, VAWC and Child Marriage with sanction of NGN25,000 fine for perpectrators before been handed over to the law enforcement agents for prosecution.
Likewise, the LGA Chairman speaking through the Secretary to LGA on behalf of the LGA honorables express readiness to work with Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria, UNICEF and Oyo State Government by making fund available to the Local Technical Committee by including it the LGA’s annual budget, ensuring timely realease of fund and enacting a bye-law prohibiting FGM, GBV, VAWC and Child Marriage in the LGA.
