UNICEF, Trailblazer held Training for 40 Community Facilitators to Eliminate FGM

In partnership with UNICEF, Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria (TBI) conducted a 3-day training workshop for 40 community facilitators from female youth-led and women-led Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) across 20 intervention communities in Oluyole, Ogooluwa, and Oyo East LGAs of Oyo State. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by empowering local leaders to become advocates of change in their communities.

The participants, all selected for their leadership and dedication to women’s rights, were trained on strategies to end FGM and equipped with skills to conduct similar training workshops within their own communities. These facilitators are now positioned to mentor and empower 300 adolescent girls, who have been carefully selected from local Girl’s Clubs to serve as Adolescent Gender Champions (AGCs).

These AGCs will play a crucial role in promoting gender equality and advocating for the elimination of harmful practices, particularly FGM, among their peers and families. By educating and empowering adolescent girls, the initiative ensures that young women take the lead in championing their rights and driving community-wide change.

This program, supported by UNICEF, strengthens the capacity of grassroots organizations and encourages intergenerational collaboration, creating a sustainable movement against FGM. Through these efforts, we aim to build stronger, more resilient communities where the rights of girls and women are respected and protected.
