With support from UNICEF Nigeria, the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion conducted a five-day capacity-building workshop for 40 representatives of Community-Based Child Protection Structures (CBCPS) from four communities in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The workshop, held from 13–17 July 2026 at the LGC Conference Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan, brought together community leaders, religious leaders, social workers, law enforcement personnel, teachers, women leaders, youth representatives and health workers.
As a UNICEF Civil Society Organisation (CSO) partner in Oyo State, Trailblazer Initiative Nigeria (TBI) provided technical assistance to strengthen participants’ capacity to identify, prevent, report and respond appropriately to child protection concerns within their communities.
The training focused on understanding child protection risks, community-based identification and reporting, referral pathways, coordinated response and collaboration between community structures and government institutions.
Participants also developed community action plans aimed at addressing identified child protection concerns and strengthening community ownership of child protection interventions.
The strengthened CBCPS are expected to support continued awareness, identification, reporting, referral and response to child protection concerns while promoting safer environments for children.
When communities are empowered to protect children, protection becomes everyone’s responsibility.
